10th Annual Guess the Ice-out date contest.
This special 10th anniversary contest will have a seperate prize category for kids under age 16!

10th Annual Lake Sarah Guess the Ice Out Date Contest – Entry period opens February 5, 2012 and closes at midnight on February 19, 2012.
Due to the unseasonable weather we have shortened up the entry period to keep things fair. Don’t delay – enter today! Hard to believe it’s been 10 years already….
This years prizes are:
- Adult Winner - $100 gift certificate to McGarry’s Pub & Restaurant in Maple Plain (courtesy of Jean McGarry and the Spencer family – Thanks Jean!),
- Youth winner (15 and under) - $50 gift certificate to All Seasons Sports in Delano (say hi to Shawn & Delano’s Citizen of the Year Jack when you’re in there).
Historic ice out dates provided by lake neighbors Tim Wuollet, Kathy Hahn, and Mike Peterson are posted to the Ice Over / Ice Out history page to help you make your best guess. All ties will be decided by a drawing of correct entries.

2012 Contest rules are:
- One entry per person (yes each [human] family member may have their own guess). Please indicate entrants who are under age 16.
- The prizes for the 2012 Ice Out Contest winners will be: Adult winner (16 and older) - $100 gift certificate to McGarry’s Pub & Restaurant in Maple Plain. Youth winner (age 15 and under) - $50 gift certificate to All Seasons Sports in Delano.
- Eligible households must be in the immediate lake Sarah area (Loretto, Independence, Greenfield, Rockford, Maple Plain).
- Entries must have been received between February 5, 2012 and midnight February 19, 2012.
- Entries will be posted on this webpage (see tables below) as soon as administratively possible, entrants are encouraged to check for already chosen dates and if desired to select dates that have not yet been chosen.
- LSIA membership is not required (but LSIA would appreciate your support).
- The 2012 Official Ice Out date is defined as the day Lake Sarah is judged completely free of ice by a consensus of opinions by Mike Peterson, Tim Wuollet, & Brad Spencer.
- Any ties will be decided by a drawing of correct entries.
- Email your name (indicate Youth or Adult), phone number, and guess to Brad Spencer at this website. (entries will be accepted 2/5/12 through midnight 2/19/12)

HISTORIC ICE OUT DATES FOR LAKE SARAH (27-0191)
These ice out dates were compiled from years of observations by lake Sarah residents Tim Wuollet and Kathy Hahn. Tim and Kathy recorded the same dates in almost all of the years but in four years (marked by asterisk *) the reported dates were averaged. The definition of "Ice Out" applied here is the date upon which the lake is completely free of ice. Thanks to Kathy and Tim for providing their data for use here!
